Mao and Markets: Beijing Global Gateway hosts book launch

Notre Dane alumnus Christopher Marquis launched his new book at a special event at the Beijing Global Gateway on February 9, 2023. The book launch panel was co-hosted by the Beijing Global Gateway, Yale Club of Hong Kong, Cornell China Center, and Yale Center Beijing. Marquis’ new book, The Communist Roots of Chinese Enterprise, emphasizes how the booming market economy of China has roots in Maoist ideology. Marquis’ idea received wide discussion and approval from participants of the book launch.

Christopher Marquis is the Sinyi Professor of Chinese Management at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School. He is the author of the award-winning books Better Business: How the B Corp Movement is Remaking Capitalism and Mao and Markets: The Communist Roots of Chinese Enterprise. Prior to joining Cambridge, he worked at Cornell for more than six years, and Harvard for over 11 years, where he developed an award-winning course on social entrepreneurship. Marquis earned a PhD in sociology and business administration from the University of Michigan and BA in History from Notre Dame.
